Using markers in the ST90 user interface
Under normal use, the ST90 system presents several different echoes simultaneously. Some of these are clearly more interesting than others. It can be a challenging task to tell these echoes apart. It can also be hard to keep track of the different echoes as both echoes and your own vessel move. To ease the identification of these echoes you can use markers.
Rulers
Place Ruler allows you to measure the distance and bearing between two objects in the horizontal view. The function creates a straight line - referred to as a "ruler" - between the objects. The length and relative bearing of the ruler is displayed next to it.

- User interface familiarization
  By default, the display presentation covers the entire screen. The display presentation provided by the ST90 system consists of specific visual elements that work together. The visual elements provide you with the echo information you need, they help you to control the functionality needed to understand this information, and finally, they allow you to control the operational parameters.

  During replay, the dedicated replay bar is shown immediately under the top bar. The replay bar allows you to retrieve saved files, and to control the playback.

- Using markers in the ST90 user interface
  Under normal use, the ST90 system presents several different echoes simultaneously. Some of these are clearly more interesting than others. It can be a challenging task to tell these echoes apart. It can also be hard to keep track of the different echoes as both echoes and your own vessel move. To ease the identification of these echoes you can use markers.
  - Place Marker
    Select Place Marker to create a visual marker symbol at the cursor's current position. Each marker is shown as a small triangle with or without a short identifying label. You can also place a marker by pressing the Place Marker button on the Operating Panel.
  - Target markers
    During normal operation, some echoes are clearly more interesting than others. In many situations specific echoes may be regarded as targets. To keep track of the targets you can use target markers and/or start target tracking. When target tracking is activated, bearing and tilt are automatically adjusted to follow the movements of the tracked target.
  - Circle Marker
    A single circle marker can be placed in the display presentation. The circle is drawn with the same diameter as your purse. By means of the circle you can see the size of the school relative to your purse. You can only add one circle marker to the display presentation.
  - Own Ship Marker
    Select Place Own Ship Marker to add a square symbol to the vessel’s current position in the echo presentation. The own ship marker is intended as a tool in a search situation.
  - Gear Symbol
    You can activate this function from the short-cut menu or use the dedicated button on the Operating Panel.
  - Rulers

- Using target and position tracking
  The phrase target is used to identify an echo in the display presentation that you wish to act upon.The echo may be from a material item, a shallow, reef or rock, or from fish, fish schools or mammals.In most cases, the target will move and continuously change its position relative to your own vessel.You must decide which echoes that shall be classified as targets, and whether you shall start manual or automatic target tracking. A position track permits the ST90 system to automatically control the tilt and bearing based on the movements of your vessel.

- Bottom bar
  The bottom bar is located at the bottom of the display presentation and stretches from the left side to the right side. The tabs on the bottom bar allow you to choose presentation mode.

Functions and dialog boxes
The functions and dialog boxes provided in the ST90 user interface are not described in this publication.
Technical specifications
The technical specifications summarize the main functional and operational characteristics of the ST90 system. They also provide information related to power requirements, physical properties and environmental conditions.
Datagram formats
The ST90 system can send and receive information to and from several different peripherals. All transmissions take place as datagrams with data sentences. Each datagram has a defined format and length.

Rulers

Place Ruler allows you to measure the distance and bearing between two objects in the horizontal view. The function creates a straight line - referred to as a "ruler" - between the objects. The length and relative bearing of the ruler is displayed next to it.

To use this functionality:

Place the cursor over the first echo.
Right-click to open the shortcut menu. Select Place Ruler.
Once the shortcut menu is closed, position the other end of the ruler and place it with a left-click.

You can place as many rulers as you like in the view. Once a ruler has been established you can not make changes to it.

Select Delete Ruler or Delete All Rulers on the shortcut menu to delete one or all rulers from the view.

Objects menu

The Objects menu does not provide any information about rulers.
