Configuring the environmental parameters
Environmental parameters such as salinity, and sound speed play an important part to present accurate echo data. Use the Environment parameters to define these values. Depending on the current sea and weather conditions, you may need to change these values frequently.
You must correctly set the sound speed through the water to obtain accurate echoes. Several parameters are required to calculate the correct sound speed value. If these parameters are unknown, use the default value of 1494 m/s. This is a typical mean value for sound speed in salt water.
Procedure
- Open the Setup menu.
- Select Environment.
Observe that the Environment dialog box opens.
- Open the Water Column page.
- Specify if you work in fresh or salt water.
- Specify the sound speed.
- Select OK to save the selected settings and close the dialog box.
