Updating the firmware on the Operating Panel (Mk2)
Whenever required the firmware in the Operating Panel can be updated to include new functionality or to correct software errors.
The Operating Panel is installed as specified in the Installation manual. The Processor Unit is turned on. The following specific items are required for this task:
USB flash drive
Personal computer (Optional)
Computer mouse (Optional)
Computer keyboard (Optional)
Ethernet cable (Optional)
Chrome web browser
A firmware update for the Operating Panel was distributed with sonar software version 3.1.8. If this update has not been implemented you will need to use the Chrome web browser. If you want to use the Processor Unit you must first connect it to the Internet, then download and install Chrome.
If the update with 3.1.8 was implemented you can do the firmware update on the Processor Unit using the default browser.
Neither tools nor instruments are required. This procedure is made for the Microsoft® Windows® 10 operating system. It is assumed that you are familiar with this operating system.
The software release note may contain additional details related to the firmware update.
Procedure
- Locate the firmware update file: SOPupdate.zip.
- If
you use a separate computer:
- Copy the file to a folder on your computer, but do not unpack it.
- Disconnect the Operating Panel from the Processor Unit. (Ethernet cable)
- Connect the Operating Panel to the computer.
- Open the web browser.

- In the browser address field, type: http://157.237.60.20:5000
Note:
If you have previously changed the IP Address on the Operating Panel, you must use this address to open the configuration page.
- If you use the Processor Unit:
- Select Power off to turn off the system.
- In the Power Off dialog box, select Exit to Operating System to close the ST90 program.
- If applicable: Connect the keyboard and the mouse to USB sockets on the Processor Unit.
- From the Windows® Start button, right-click to open File Explorer.
- Insert the USB flash drive.
- Copy the file to a folder on the Processor Unit, but do not unpack it.
- Remove the USB flash drive.
- On the Processor Unit desktop, open folder SIMRAD-Shortcut.
- Double-click the URL
shortcut to open the Operating Panel configuration page in the default
web browser.
Note:
If you have previously changed the IP Address on the Operating Panel, you must use this address to open the configuration page.
- Select Power off to turn off the system.
- Do the firmware update.
- In the browser window, select Update.
- Select Perform update.
- Locate the firmware update file and select Open.
- Select OK when prompted to
update.
The firmware update will now take place. The web browser will reload. You may need to refresh the web browser after some time.
- Make sure that the correct versions have been installed:
Refer to the software release note.
- If
you use a separate computer:
- Disconnect the Operating Panel from the computer.
- Connect the Operating Panel to the Processor Unit. (Ethernet cable)
- On the Processor Unit desktop, double-click the ST90 icon to start the program.
- Restore normal operation.
