Transmission Mode function
Transmission Mode lets you to control how often the ST90 system shall transmit acoustic energy (ping) into the water. For normal use, choose Maximum. If you choose Maximum, the ST90 system will transmit (ping) continuously and as often as possible. This gives you the maximum refresh rate.

How to open
This function is opened from the Operation menu.
Description
Select the middle of the button to open a small menu with the available options.
If you are recording raw data to a very slow external memory device, this may reduce the ping rate. The ST90 will not permit a new “ping until all the data from the previous ping has been saved.
Details
- Single Ping
This option allows the ST90 system to transmit single pings. The ST90 system transmits (pings) only when you click the ping symbol on the Transmission Mode button.
- Interval
The ST90 system transmits (pings) with a fixed time interval. Ping Interval permits you to choose the time (in milliseconds) between each transmission (ping).
- Maximum
The ST90 system transmits (pings) as frequent as possible. The time between each ping (the ping rate) depends mainly on the current range. How fast your computer communicates with external peripherals may also have an effect on the ping rate.
- Ping Interval
The Ping Interval function permits you to choose the time (in milliseconds) between each transmission ("ping").
Move the cursor to either side of the button to change the setting. Select the left side of the button to decrease the value. Select the right side of the button to increase the value. Select the middle of the button to open it.If you have a keyboard connected to the ST90 system, type the requested value.
- Auto
If you observe a consistent "double echo" on the ST90 system, it may be a false echo from the previous transmission (ping). Such false echoes can appear when you work in shallow water or near land using short ranges and a high ping rate.
The phrase ping rate is used to describe the parameter that controls how often the ST90 system can or shall transmit acoustic energy (a "ping") into the water.
One way to remove this false echo is to reduce the ping rate. If you reduce the ping rate, all the echoes from the previous ping will have disappeared before you transmit the next.
Select Auto to make the ST90 system control the ping interval automatically. When activated, the Auto mode reduces the ping rate on shorter ranges.
Note:This functionality is specifically adapted to match the hardware in the Mk2 version of the ST90 system. Systems with other hardware configurations will have limited use of this feature.
