Navigational information
The navigational information is located in the middle of the top bar. To choose which information to be displayed on the top bar, use the Top Bar functions in the Display Options dialog box. The Display Options dialog box is located on the Display menu.
Heading read-out
When enabled, the vessel's current heading is shown on the top bar.

The purpose of this publication is to provide the descriptions and procedures required to allow for efficient use of the ST90 system. The manual does not contain detailed information about functions, dialog boxes and operating parameters.

User interface
- User interface familiarization
  By default, the display presentation covers the entire screen. The display presentation provided by the ST90 system consists of specific visual elements that work together. The visual elements provide you with the echo information you need, they help you to control the functionality needed to understand this information, and finally, they allow you to control the operational parameters.
- Top bar
  - Top bar overview
    The top bar is located at the top of the display presentation and stretches from the far left to the far right. The top bar gives you fast access to key functionality and navigational information. It provides buttons for hiding and showing the menu, making screen captures, opening the Messages dialog box, and opening context-sensitive help. And more importantly, from the top bar you can see when data recording is active.
  - Logo and product name
    The brand logo and product name are shown on the left side of the top bar.
  - Menu
    Menu is located on the left side of the top bar. This is an "on/off" function.
  - Screen Recording
    The Screen Recording function allows you to record and save the echo presentation as a video file. Select Screen Recording on the top bar to start and stop the recording.
  - Screen Capture
    While using the ST90 system you may wish to make a screen capture to save an instantaneous copy of the current presentation.
  - Record
    A useful function of the ST90 system is it ability to record echo data. Use the raw data recording functionality provided by the ST90 system to save echo data using the *.raw format. You can save the data to the hard disk, or onto an external storage device. The data files can be played back on the ST90 system. The data files can later be deleted, copied or moved to another storage device.
  - Hull Unit
    Hull Unit is located on the left side of the top bar. Select it to open the Hull Unit Control dialog box.
  - Information panes overview
    The ST90 system offers several information panes to provide additional and detailed data from the presentations. The information panes are opened and closed from the top bar. The information panes are only available when an Inspection view is "active".
  - Navigational information
    The navigational information is located in the middle of the top bar. To choose which information to be displayed on the top bar, use the Top Bar functions in the Display Options dialog box. The Display Options dialog box is located on the Display menu.
    - Geographical position read-out
      When enabled, the vessel's current geographical position is shown on the top bar.
    - Heading read-out
      When enabled, the vessel's current heading is shown on the top bar.
    - Speed read-out
      When enabled, the vessel’s current speed is shown on the top bar.
    - Bottom Depth read-out
      If enabled, the current water depth under the vessel is shown on the top bar.
    - Motion read-outs (roll and pitch)
      When enabled, the navigational information on the top bar includes the vessel’s current roll and pitch movements.
  - Messages
    Messages is located on the right side of the top bar.
  - Help
    Help is located on the right side of the top bar.
  - Operating system functions
    The operating system functions are located on the right side of the top bar. Minimize, Maximize/Normalize and Power Off are provided.
- Replay bar description
  During replay, the dedicated replay bar is shown immediately under the top bar. The replay bar allows you to retrieve saved files, and to control the playback.

- Using markers in the ST90 user interface
  Under normal use, the ST90 system presents several different echoes simultaneously. Some of these are clearly more interesting than others. It can be a challenging task to tell these echoes apart. It can also be hard to keep track of the different echoes as both echoes and your own vessel move. To ease the identification of these echoes you can use markers.
- Using target and position tracking
  The phrase target is used to identify an echo in the display presentation that you wish to act upon.The echo may be from a material item, a shallow, reef or rock, or from fish, fish schools or mammals.In most cases, the target will move and continuously change its position relative to your own vessel.You must decide which echoes that shall be classified as targets, and whether you shall start manual or automatic target tracking. A position track permits the ST90 system to automatically control the tilt and bearing based on the movements of your vessel.

- Bottom bar
  The bottom bar is located at the bottom of the display presentation and stretches from the left side to the right side. The tabs on the bottom bar allow you to choose presentation mode.

Functions and dialog boxes
The functions and dialog boxes provided in the ST90 user interface are not described in this publication.
Technical specifications
The technical specifications summarize the main functional and operational characteristics of the ST90 system. They also provide information related to power requirements, physical properties and environmental conditions.
Datagram formats
The ST90 system can send and receive information to and from several different peripherals. All transmissions take place as datagrams with data sentences. Each datagram has a defined format and length.

Heading read-out

When enabled, the vessel's current heading is shown on the top bar.

Prerequisites

To see this information on the top bar, you must enable it by using the Top Bar functions in the Display Options dialog box. Select General to open the page. The Display Options dialog box is located on the Display menu.

Description

If a heading sensor (gyro compass) is connected to the ST90 system, the top bar may show you the vessel's current heading.

Note:

The information shown on the top bar must not be used for vessel navigation.

You can set up datagram priorities for both heading and course information on the Sensor Configuration page. When enabled, the vessel's current heading is shown on the top bar. If the information from the heading sensor fails, the top bar will change to present the course information instead.

The text colours indicate the quality of the information.

Blue: The data from the sensor is of good quality.
Yellow: A manually entered value replaces the data from the sensor.
Red: The data from the sensor is missing.

Related functionality

Display Options dialog box: To choose which navigation elements to see on the top bar, use the functionality provided in the Display Options dialog box. This dialog box is opened from the Display menu.
Sensor Configuration page: With multiple sensors connected to the ST90 system, many of them will provide the same datagrams. We cannot expect that these datagrams provide the same information. The Sensor Configuration page allows you to define a datagram priority, so that the information from the "most reliable" sensor is used by the ST90 system. You can also define manual values in case a sensor is unserviceable, or not installed.
