Catch view

Use the information in the Catch view to monitor the progress of the purse seine operation. The view does not offer any echo data.

Description

At the bottom of the display presentation, select a suitable presentation mode, and activate the Catch view.

There are no echoes in this view, only a number of other objects. These provide you with additional functionality, as well as information that is useful or important while using the ST90 sonar system.

Progress bar

The progress bar at the top of the Catch view shows you the amount of net that has been spent. The sequence starts when you shoot the net.

Two timers are placed over the progress bar. The first timer starts when you select Place Gear Symbol. It stops when the progress bar reads 100%. This action starts the second timer, which stops when you select Remove Gear Symbol.

For use with a purse seine, the intended process follows:

  1. To start the process:

    • Press Gear on the Operating Panel.or:
    • Right-click and select Show Gear Symbol on the shortcut menu.

This places a circle marker in the view. The size and location of the marker is defined by the choices you have made with the Fishing Gear function. Until you proceed, the marker follows the movements of the vessel by keeping its relative location to the bow. This allows you to position your vessel in the best possible location before you shoot the purse seine.

  2. When you shoot the net:

    • Press Gear on the Operating Panel.or:
    • Right-click and select Place Gear Symbol on the shortcut menu.

The first timer starts when you select Place Gear Symbol.

A rectangular marker is placed in the view, and marks the position where the purse seine was shot. The circular marker is disconnected from the vessel movements, and acts as a guideline for your manoeuvring. The history line shows the movements of your vessel. Since the ST90 system knows the length of your net, it places a second marker on this line when half the length has been spent. When the entire net has been spent, a third rectangular marker is shown. In this phase the Fishing Gear function is disabled.

The first timer stops when the progress bar reads 100%. This action starts the second timer, which stops when you select Remove Gear Symbol.

  3. When the process is finalized:

    • Press Gear on the Operating Panel.or:
    • Right-click and select Remove Gear Symbol on the shortcut menu to delete the markers from the view.
Purse seine

A line of X’es in the vertical views shows the bottom of the purse seine. The depth is defined for the fishing gear you have chosen. The depth is calculated from the sink rate you have defined for the fishing gear. Use Purse Depth on the Cosmetics menu to toggle this line On or Off.

Tip:

Under Fishing Gear, select Fishing Gear Setup to open the dialog box. For the selected purse, set the sink rate. For the selected purse, select a depth value.

If you have connected a compatible catch monitoring system to your ST90 system, information from these sensors are shown in the Catch view.

Range

Horizontal dotted lines show the depth intervals. Use Depth Dividers on the Cosmetics menu to toggle these lines On or Off.

Markers

Relevant information about a priority target can be found in the lower left corner of the view. The information includes the location, speed, course and depth of the target, as well as an estimate of its area and volume.

Coverage Plot

When you operate with sector transmissions, the area covered by the sonar beams is limited by the chosen transmit sector angle. To make it easier to recognize the area limits, dedicated border lines may be added to the presentation. These lines are used to outline the sector. This function is opened from the Cosmetics menu. Cosmetics is located on the Display menu.

The coverage plot for the Plane view is shown in the Horizontal view.

Tip:

The Cosmetics menu controls which "cosmetic" features that used.

Before you can change the settings related to a view, the view must be active. To activate a view, click in it. The active view is identified with a thicker border.
