Range function

The Range function allows you to specify the maximum distance from the transducer to the outer edge of the sonar beam. The range value shown and selected is by default only applied to the currently selected view.

Specifications: Range

  • Minimum10 metres
  • Maximum5.000 metres
  • Extended range14.000 metres

How to open

This function is opened from the Main menu.

Description

The range setting defines from how "far" you want to detect echoes. In other words, you specify the horizontal or vertical distance from the vessel to the outer edge of the search area.

Tip:

If you wish to apply the new range setting to all the views, select Apply to all.

The current range is shown with the range rings in the sonar views. In each Inspection view, the range is identified with range lines. When you move the cursor inside each view, you can read the actual range from the vessel to the current cursor position.

Note:

Even though you can choose a high range value, that does not mean that you can detect your targets in the same range. The range value only defines the range shown in the views.Actual target detection will always depend on the operating environment, such as water temperature, salinity, interference and layers in the water column.

Extended range

By adding a specific software license you can increase the maximum range to 14.000 metres. The ST90 system does not need any software licenses to operate. However, specific software license codes "unlocks" additional functionality. The Software License settings allow you to type a license code (text string) to unlock these optional functions. The Software License page is located in the Installation dialog box.

The Mk2 Operating Panel is fitted with three rotary switches. The Mk3 Operating Panel is fitted with two rotary switches. The switches are identified with numbers. Each switch can be assigned a function related to range, gain, bearing or tilt. The Operating Panel page is used to assign functionality to the programmable buttons. This page is located in the Installation dialog box.
